NUR Tempo II replaces NUR Tempo “one”

An improved firmware allows NUR to tweak and thereby decrease the slowness from its venerable NUR Tempo dedicated flatbed printer. The new version is now called the NUR Tempo II. Next came the NUR Tempo Q, and then (March 10, 2008) the printer has evolved to become the HP Scitex FB6100.

Over 80 models of UV printers exist from more than 45 manufacturers. We try to cover as many of these printers as possible. But we do not have an update PDF on the Scitex Vision VEEjet+ (HP Scitex FB6700) since not much information is available on the older technology of this particular printer and thus few of our readers ask about it. Indeed the VEEjet as quietly disappeared from the scene. No new flatbed replaced it. Instead HP bought NUR and used the Tempo II to provide a flatbed.

It was possible to inspect the NUR Tempo Q at the factory in Israel (twice, for two days each time) as well as to inspect advances in hardware, software, and inks in their R&D facilities at their world headquarters. During this time it was also possible to study the NUR Expedio Revolution and NUR Expedio Inspiration.

Now the NUR Expedio 5000 and NUR Revolution are the HP Scitex XP5100 and HP Scitex XP 5300.

The NUR Expedio 3200 and NUR Expedio Inspiration are the HP Scitex XP2100 and XP2700.

The NUR Tempo Q is the HP Scitex FB6100.

NUR Tempo II printer

Five years ago, this was a revolutionary UV-cured flatbed printer. But by the time of SGIA ‘08, too many other printers have become faster (Gandinnovations 1224), finer, have added white ink (Oce Arizona 350), have less banding (Durst Rho 700), etc.

Since a lot of used models are available on the open market, the best we can say is that even former tech support people express caution with the early versions. And updating from one version to another is like changing the motor in your pickup truck. Many original parts still date back to the past era. So it is not a bad printer (banding was it's main issue in the past, and perhaps lack of speed), just that today, in 2009, there are too many other printers that are newer and more practical to help you overcome competition in your part of the world.

I recently met two different printshop owners who had a NUR Tempo. One had an early version. He complained primarily about poor tech support. This was the most common comment about these printers in general. The second person had bought a brand new HP version FB6100. His list of issues was longer. With dozens and dozens of UV printers it is not realistic to update evaluations of old printers, but at some point we will update the evaluation because if you are thinking of buying a used machine, you should be aware of reality. None of this is stated to suggest you should not buy this printer, only that if you do purchase it, just be aware of what to expect.
