Matan JetSet 2.5i, Matan JetSet 3.2i rebranded from Teckwin in China

We have noticed the Matan JetSet 2.5i and Matan JetSet 3.2i solvent ink printers at DRUPA 2004, ISA 2004, SGIA 2004, ISA 2005, FESPA 2005, but did not see them again at SGIA 2005. Matan should reappear at ISA 2006. There we will be comparing them with other Teckwin printers that are rebranded by Gerber.

Teckwin printers have been sold by 3M (3M Printer 20s) as well, but this printer did not last long. DuPont, Raster Printers and other US companies learned the hard way that you can’t just take a Chinese printer and but a US brand-name on top of it.

The 3M version printers would unlikely hold up to constant use. Straight from China you tend to expect a printer to have gitches and problems that can only be resolved by investing millions in redesigning the printers and using stronger parts.

We know DuPont has taken two years. We do not know to what degree Matan and other companies have redesigned the Teckwin printers. Merely getting rid of the entry-level Xaar printheads and using better printheads is not enough (but is a good first step). If we can find a Matan printer near us in Toledo, Ohio or in Guatemala, we will inspect it.
